Situation

Many homes have a footstool as part of their furniture. Footstools solve various problems and are a practical piece of furniture that most families use. They are invaluable for comfort and for functional uses. A furniture maker has been hired to design and create a range of ‘Footstools’ or similar type of furniture that is primarily designed to seat someone or allow them to rest their feet while relaxing. As a designer you should consider theme or style to increase its aesthetic appeal and hopefully become more marketable and promote sales.

Situation specific

You are to design and make a Footstool that would be suitable for use with a family.

A range of footstools are to be considered and must be no larger than 350mm x 250mm x 250mm.

It must be made primarily out of Manufactured board or sustainable timber and include a Laser Cut or 3-D Printed component.

It must be safe for the whole family to use. (It must be stable, sturdy and have no sharp edges or toxic materials involved)

The Seat needs to appeal to a certain target market and Product must have a Laser cut or 3-D printed feature.

You must design and create a footstool that follows these guidelines and is finished to a high quality.
