With the start of the 2023/2024 school year, the district will no longer purchase the Sonday online materials through Winsor. This spreadsheet was created to house the digital materials and resources across all grade levels in one spot. All lessons have been added to each grade level along with slide decks and other supplemental materials to support each lesson. A screener has been designed for grades 1-5 to help determine beginning of the year placement for whole group instruction. Grade level screeners and district expectations are outlined in the Using LAS Phonics Screeners and Skills Assessments to Drive Instruction slide deck. Refer to this slide deck for direction on Sonday Essentials usage in the classroom, placement screeners, and directions on scoring and whole class placement.

Below are the PD slide decks that outline the how and why of Sonday Essentials. These slides are designed to give an overview of why Sonday Essentials is an important component of reading instruction and how to implement it in the classroom setting.
Below is a list of frequently asked questions for grades K-2 and grades 3-5 related to Sonday Essentials. Sonday Essentials is a Tier 1 core phonics and word study curriculum for general education classroom teachers.
A grade level skills assessment should be given to all students who are believed to be proficient in the Sonday Essentials phonics and word study skills. If students are proficient in all areas of the Skills Assessment, advanced word study skills from Benchmark Word Study are recommended. A score of 90% or higher would be considered mastery of skills.
Please note that the 4th-grade demonstration video was done with approximately 60 4th-grade students new to Sonday Essentials. Due to the large number of students, the lesson went slightly over 20 minutes.
