OUR VALUES - Friendship - Honesty - Kindness - Respect - Trust
The sun finally shone and we managed to get outside for the P7 Egg Hunt.
I can't believe we are here at the end of Term 3. Miss Walker and I wish you all a Happy Easter and a restful and fun holiday. We look forward to welcoming you all back for a busy Term 4.
Best Wishes,
Pauline

We have been busy getting to know our new Buddies from our Nursery over the last few weeks.
We look forward to helping them next term and after the Summer to help them have a great transition to P1.
Mrs Thomson is not quite sure who had the most fun as you can see in the pictures.
Last Friday we had a great tennis taster session with a preresentative from Bellfield Tennis Club. We worked through a number of racket exercises and worked with a partner to develop our passing skills.
This week Primary 6 have been learning to identify flags from different European countries. We have been doing this through different games and activities, as well as using an Atlas. We have been finding that there are several flags with similar patterns and colours.
The children have been learning about Buddhism this term. This week we have been creating Buddha inspired pieces of art. The first step was painting a beautiful sunset style background using reds, oranges & yellows.
On Monday 16th March, we were lucky enough to welcome in a Kung Fu club who wanted to give the children a taster session. The children absolutely loved it and were fantastic listeners.
They had some very hard and fun activities and games set up, some of the class are very keen to join the club! I think it was fair to say the girls were INCREDIBLE and very competitive with each other!!! But - they never took it too seriously and lots of laughs were had. Amazing work P6!
AI talk from Stuart from Lifescan
Thank you to Stuart for coming in to talk to us about the benefits of AI while also reminding us of some key messages.
We had so much learning about electricity with Ana as I'm sure you can tell from these photos.

Electricity with Ana from UHI
We had a great learning experience with Ana from UHI today as she explained all about electricty and how we use it.
We learnt how circuits work using tennis balls and cones! Then we then explored some circuits with different part of the kit with exciting outcomes.
We are so grateful to Ana for sharing her time with us.
Lego City Challenge
We took part in our very own Ness Castle Lego City Challenge today. We had great fun learning to be engineers creating our very own buildings to add to the Ness Castle Lego City sky line.
Primary 6 have been working very hard in numeracy so far this term.
We have been focussing on multiplication, division and a variety of strategies to help us solve problems. We have been using a range of resources to help us do this. Throughout the week P6 will engage with practical materials like dice/cards/cubes, play games with peers, engage with online learning games, work with myself or a PSA and use a textbook to put all of their practical learning into written work.
P6 organise themselves very well and have been getting through lots of learning!
Miss Walker 😀
This week, we have been celebrating World Book Day through a variety of activities including:

Book Reviews - Creating a book review of a book we've recently read
Book Recommendation Lists - Compiling a list of book recommendations for our peers
Draw Alongs - Following an illustrators instructions on how to draw specific things
Authors' Lives
World Book Day Quiz
Miss Walker 😀
Primary 6 have been continuing to develop their skills in PE through basketball this term. We have been learning/practising dribbling, different types of passes and shooting skills. P6 are desperate to start playing games against each other with all of their new found skills!

Our writing with me on a Wednesday has taken an unexpected turn following on from our research into school life in France and the fact that French school children do not wear school uniform!
We have carried out a short block of Persuasive and Discussion based writing. We have been learning to write a Balanced Argument in which we must put aside our own personal opinions and consider both the negative and positive elements of a subject.
It has been very interesting on my behalf to follow the struggles some children have finding positives for the following subjects we have covered;
Should Children have to wear school uniform?
Should sweets be banned?
Should Children have to do homework?
Joking aside, I am very proud of how the class has really engaed with this topic and have produced some fabulous pieces of writing.
Best Wishes,
Pauline

We have a range of talented individuals in P6 but today we celebrate the musical talents of our class. Mr Hay comes into school each week to tutor a couple of P6 pupils and he was detailed to share today that they are making super progress.
I look forward to being entertained soon.

Congratulations to all the P6 pupils who completed the Bikeability training over the last 2 terms. I am pleased to say they have all passed the training requirements.
Thank you so much to the volunteers who use up their own time to help our young people stay safe when out on their bikes.

It was lovely to see so many parents come along to the classroom during our recent open afternoon.
It gave Miss Walker and I a chance to showcase how we support the more structured learning in Numeracy and Maths (jotter work) with games and activities.
The children were excellent tour guides instructuing the adults how to play our games.

We have made a great start to our Europe topic so far this term.
With Miss Walker we have been looking at the Geographical elements of Europe; using our atlases to learn about the separate countries. capitals, mountains and bodies of water of this continent.
We explored the country of Spain in greater detail and used our research notes to create our own Fact Files on this country.
With Mrs Thomson we have revisited our learning of the French language and have reminded ourselves of how of how to introduce ourselves, and of the numbers, days and months of the year in order that we can say the day and date.
We have now moved on to French food. This has made us very hungry. As well as learning the French vocabulary we are also researching how French food is similar and different to Scottish food. We are keen to find out if they have mince and tatties in France.
In art we have been looking at the art of Picasso. We have created these super 3d masks influenced by the cubist paintings of Picasso.

I just wanted to thank all of the children for their lovely welcome back to school. They have been extremely helpful in answering my (many!!) questions and keeping me right. I am looking forward to working with P6 and Mrs Thomson for the rest of the school year!
Thank you! 😀

Happy New Year! Welcome to Term 3!
I can't believe that we are in Term 3 already and after a snowy start we are up and running in P6 with lots to look forward to this term. I would like to thank you all for the lovely cards, gifts and Christmas wishes which were bestowed on me during the last week of term. It was very kind of you.
We have been very excited to welcome Miss Walker back to class after her maternity leave. You may have noticed Mr Connon's post on the school app confirming that Miss Walker will now be Class Teacher on a Monday and Tuesday and I will be Class Teacher on a Thursday and Friday. We will be working alternate Wednesdays.
We will shall be posting our Termly Organiser once Miss Walker has settled back but we are looking forward to a big IDL topic on Europe which will tie in nicely to the Highland P6 Euro Quiz which takes place later this term. We will also be revisiting our learning in French and Miss Adair will be carrying out a Science topic during our CCR time.
It is also that time of year again when we are busy learning our Scots Language Poem as part of our Burns' Day celebration. Our annual competition is also an exciting time for us in school. Children will be learning the poem in school but have also been asked to work on learning the poem as part of their homework.
Please note for now;
Homework will be issued on a Monday and should be returned on a Friday,
PE will now take place on a TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY. Please take a note of this change. All pupils require a pair of indoor shoes suitable for physical excercise. As Mr Connon has previously advised us all, crocs and slippers are not safe for PE.
P6 pupils are reminded that as part of the terms of their Chromebook agreement, all Chromebooks should be charged and ready for learning when children come in to school in the morning ready for learning.
Thank you
Pauline
