OUR VALUES - Friendship - Honesty - Kindness - Respect - Trust
Here are our Nessie Knights for this week - for showing great responsibility and confidence in their role of Rights Respecting Schools Reps during World Children's Day - well done!
This week has involved lots of planning and prep for our upcoming class assembly... So we can't reveal too much about our learning as it's a surprise for then!
On Thursday we took part in World Children's Day. We worked individually, as a class, upper stages team and whole school, taking part in lots of fun, creative and thought provoking activities. We were able to explore lots of our Rights, including Article 15 (the right to join groups), Article 31 (the right to rest, play, culture and arts) and Article 24 (health, water, food and environment).
In class we were set the task of sorting our Rights into -
basic needs
safe from harm
express themselves
This got us thinking about the rights and how the are relevant to us day to day. We also enjoyed time with P6 and P7 during a creative session and joined in with a Rights story, dancing and singing with the whole school in the hall.
Aslo, here our our long awaited... Ghosts in the Library...
Here is our Nessie Knight for working extremely hard on their literacy work this week, allowing them to research and record some super facts - well done!
Our week started with a visit from our local community police officers. This was a great opportunity for us to find out about their 'world of work' and what a typical day would be like as a police officer. We asked lots of great questions and obviously enjoyed exploring the kit that is essential to the officers while on the beat.
We continued our research on Scottish landscapes this week and also took our tech skills to the next level. We had to find relevant photos to accompany our facts but also insert them into Google Slides and resize them ready for printing. Once printed we were then able to assembly our 'exploding books' as a way to present what we had learned.
Creating our 'exploding books' was a little fiddly and required us to listen carefully to instructions and follow them accurately. We then added a front and back cover to our books, including a blurb on the back and now have them ready to share with each other and our P2/3 paired reading partners.
Two Nessie Knights this week... for super tech skills allowing them to be leaders and teach others some new skills - well done!
This week, we continued out hockey skills on Friday. During some dribbling drills we had to focus on the accuracy of our movements to allow us to successfully dribble in and out of the cones.
We also started the to plan and research our High Quality Assessment task based on the features of Scotland's landscape. We began by recording what we think we already know about rivers, lochs, islands and mountains. We then worked in our groups to record what we want to find out about these features.
We got into smaller research groups and were set the task of researching answers to the questions we came up with. We used books, videos and websites through Google to find the information. We had to ensure our research was relevant and accurate to the group we were in.
A bunch of fantastic Nessie Knights this week for showing kindness to one another and being their amazing, awesome selves!
A busy and spooky start to the new term!
We were able to like our Science work to Halloween this week when building vertebrate skeleton jigsaws. We build humans and bats as well as creating a poster about vertebrates and invertebrates. We also enjoyed another Continuous Writing session using a sentence starter and a funny picture stimulus to help us.
During PE, we played the Pumpkin Patch Halloween game before our first uni-hoc session together. We focused on hand eye co-ordination while dribbling the ball with control.
During Art this week we set ourselves a big challenge to complete a spooky library piece which required lots of patience, care and drying time! We use paint to create our own version of the library and they have turned out amazingly well. Finished products to follow...
