Week Beginning 15/12/25 and 22/12/25
We have enjoyed various Christmas activities over the last week in P2/3. We had our Christmas lunch and our party. We enjoyed trying some ceilidh dancing and playing party games.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you all back at school in the New Year!

Week Beginning 08/12/25
In class this week we have:
· Practised using various subtraction strategies
· Identified the main idea of our reading books
· Identified and used the ‘ie’ phoneme – pie, tie, lie, fries
· Identified ways to keep our body healthy and created posters
· Focused on ‘it/ill’ handwriting joins
· Enjoyed paired reading with our P5 library buddies
Bethlehem Bake-Off
Thank you so much for coming along to support the children with their performances of ‘The Bethlehem Bake-Off’. All the children have worked incredibly hard to learn their lines and words to the songs. We certainly hope you enjoyed our show! Thank you for your ongoing support with helping children prepare for the show from learning their lines to sending in various items for costumes. It is very much appreciated! Please see photos below.
UHI STEM – Senses Visit
This week we also had a visit from the UHI Stem Team. Our visitor provided an excellent workshop on our body’s senses linking with our IDL topic. Children learnt lots of interesting facts about how our eyes and ears work and how they help us to see/hear. They got to be involved in some fun practical activities to enhance this learning. Children understand that our senses can help to keep us safe in our day to day lives.
Week Beginning 01/12/25
This week we have:
· Discussed symmetry and what this looks like in shapes and pictures. We created our own symmetry name monsters.
· Used the ‘oi/oy’ phoneme
· Sequenced the story of Trixie the Penguin
· Solved addition word problems
· Practised joining letters – ti and il
· Enjoyed a whole school visit to Eden Court to see the Pantomime

Week Beginning 24/11/25
This week we have:
· Been working hard behind the scenes to get ready for our Christmas show
· Looked at tessellations and identified shapes that tesselate. We created our own tessellating patterns making sure there were no gaps!
· Used the ‘ow’ sound – cow, down, crown
· Practised using different strategies to add numbers together (split and jump)
· Joined letters in handwriting – focusing on ‘ll’ and ‘li’ joins
· Moved our bodies in sequences doing Yoga
· Learned about verbs and sorted words into categories of ‘verb’ and ‘not a verb’
· Enjoyed exploring our book bags and we look forward to sharing them at home too
Week Beginning 17/11/25
Class Talks
We have had another busy week in P2/3. This week the children presented their class talks on a hobby or something special to them. The children really enjoyed hearing about a variety of topics from football, chickens, to fire engines around the world! Well done to all who participated!
World Children’s Day
This week we have also celebrated World Children’s Day. We engaged in a special live assembly presented by the Scottish Children’s Commission and reflected on how we access our rights everyday.
Parents Evening

Week Beginning 10/11/25
This week we have:
· Named, sorted and described 2D shapes
· Identified, read and practised writing ‘igh’ and ‘oa’ words
· Engaged in an online anti-bullying live lesson
· Created a story map that helped us to sequence the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’
· Used a number line as a strategy to help us add two numbers together.
· Solved missing number addition calculations
· Discussed nouns (naming words) and listed examples of nouns
· Applied all of our tennis skills we have been practising to serve the ball and pass to a partner with developing fluency
Week Beginning 03/11/25
This week we have:
· Practised reading and writing digital times
· Used our senses to help us describe a bonfire
· Practised spelling ai/ee words
· Practised balancing and passing the ball in Tennis
· Discussed onomatopoeia words and thought of words linked to fireworks
· Discussed Remembrance Day and designed a poppy to be displayed with P6’s cascade of poppies.
· Recalled number bonds to five, ten and twenty
· Doubled numbers
· Practised adding on ten and multiples of ten
· Listened to the nativity story and sequenced key events
· Enjoyed sharing stories with our P5 reading buddies
We have also started learning our songs for our upcoming Christmas performance – The Bethlehem Bake-Off! Further information to come soon.
Week Beginning 27/10/25
Welcome back! I hope you all had a great holiday and are well rested for another busy term.
This week we have:
· Ordered months of the year
· Practised French vocabulary for numbers 0-10
· Created fantastic descriptions of a witch and a haunted house
· Practised reading the time on analogue clocks
· Practised spelling common words
· Used the underarm throw technique and developed our understanding of how to safely use a tennis racket
· Identified the purpose of question marks and came up with some interesting questions
· Created some beautiful zentangle patterns
· Practised forming letters b, p and k correctly
· Reflected on our learning and set our targets for Term 2
This week we also started our four-week block of Kodaly music with Mr Thomson. The children really enjoyed participating in games to practising matching pitch when singing.
