OUR VALUES - Friendship - Honesty - Kindness - Respect - Trust
Over the last week and a half P6 have ben using their chrome books to develop their research skills by exploring a chosen area of the Victorians and taking clear notes to record key information.
They have been learning how to select important facts, organise their ideas, and use their notes to support their future writing or presentations. This helps them to become more independent learners and confident in sharing what they have discovered.
Working with Miss Adair
P6 are so lucky to be working with Miss Adair on a Wednesday afternoon to cover Mrs Thomson's CCR time. Miss Adair will be teaching us all about shape in maths and helping us to learn some French. She has set P6 the challenge of learning the numbers from 0 - 10 by next week! She will also be taking us for PE. This term we have been covering ball skills in football with Ross County and basketball with Miss Adair.
Can you believe that we are half way through the term already?
While we may have been busy with assessments and setting off on our P6 learning journey in Literacy and Numeracy, we have also been carrying out some work on our IDL Topic - The Victorians.
After a brief introduction to Queen Victoria herself we have been linking our recent work on our Class Charter and The Rights of the Child to the topic of Child Labour. It has been shocking to realise that many children around the same age as those in P6 would have been sent out to work in factories, mines and up chimneys.
We are enjoying our class novel and used the first few chapters to "Make Connections" with the life of our main character John Nicol. as he starts out in his new job as a brigger on the Forth Bridge, with a time when we have also felt new and anxious.
In art we have been studying the work of L S Lowrey and were inspired to create our own versions of his famous paintings.
I am so proud of all the pupils from P6 who applied for the position of Vice Captain and who spoke so well in front of their peers over the last 2 Fridays at assembly.
All votes have now been counted and huge congratulations go out to those who were successful.
What fun we had on Thursday taking part in a very exciting (and loud) drumming workshop with Steve. It certainly was Drumfun!
Term 1 Learning Overview
Rivet Boy by Barbara Henderson
In conjunction with our IDL topic this term many of our literacy lessons will based around our class novel 'Rivet Boy' by local Inverness author Barbara Henderson.
We were delighted to receive this special message from Barbara at the start of term.

We have been busy setting up our class charter and we had great fun making these 3D self portraits to represent us all on our display. We have talked about our rights and responsibilities this year as P6 and part of the upper classes of school and have been learning all about writing a persuasive piece of text as we work on a prospective House Vice Captain speech. Those who wish to apply for the position of Vice Captain will present their speeches to their relevant house on Friday 29th August at Assembly.
This is very exciting and I am looking forward to sharing the results with you soon.
