OUR VALUES - Friendship - Honesty - Kindness - Respect - Trust
This week we have been writing poems, focusing on our rhyming and descriptive language. Pupils continued to practice using speech marks correctly. We have begun learning about persuasive writing, and P5 have demonstrated the skills of disagreeing respectfully, clearly stating opinions and providing evidence. We are continuing to work on the reading skills of prediction and summarising, with pupils being able to back up their predictions with information from their books and adjust their predictions based on new information.
Pupils are continuing to learn new strategies for multiplication and have begun learning about measurement. They have been measuring length using centimetres and metres. In RME they have learned about how births are celebrated in Christianity including baptisms and dedications.
P5 began their swimming block on Monday and enjoyed their first session at the Aquadome. They have been learning about substance misuse and the dangers of smoking and drinking. Pupils can discuss the laws around consumption as well as the negative effects it can have.
This week in P5 pupils have begun learning about different Scottish inventors and inventions such as James Watt’s contributions to the steam engine and James Clark Maxwell’s production of the first colour photograph. Pupils have begun to think about how past inventions have influenced present life.
We have also been learning about the Zones of Emotional Regulation and have been grouping different emotions into the four zones (red, blue, yellow and green). We have talked about how the green zone (calm, proud, content and positive) is where we ideally want to be. However, we acknowledged that it is not always possible to be in this zone. Next week we will be unpacking what strategies to use when we are in the blue, yellow and red zones. Pupils have enjoyed playing hockey during PE.
We have been focusing on adverbs, persuasive writing and Scots poetry in literacy and have been learning strategies for multiplying and dividing in numeracy.
