Reporting an Absence

At Ysgol Y Bryn, we take attendance and safeguarding seriously. It is vital that we know the reason for a child’s absence as early as possible each day.

If your child is going to be absent from school, please call us on 01554 821124 and leave a message on the school’s answerphone before 9:00 a.m. You must clearly state:

• Your child’s name

• Their class

• The reason for the absence

This helps us ensure all pupils are safe and accounted for.

Medical Appointments

If your child has a medical appointment (e.g. doctor, dentist, hospital), please inform us in advance.
We kindly ask that you provide a medical note or letter as evidence — this could be:

• A hospital appointment letter

• A GP confirmation slip or note

• A screenshot or photo of a digital appointment confirmation

This helps us record the absence accurately and avoid unnecessary follow-up.

Unauthorised Absences

If no reason is given for your child’s absence:

• You will receive a text message from the school

• An ‘Unauthorised’ mark will be recorded in the register
