Help With School Costs

The Welsh Government offers several programs to assist families with school-related costs:

School Essentials Grant: Families on lower incomes may be eligible for the School Essentials Grant, providing financial assistance for:

• School uniforms, including coats and shoes

• School activities, such as learning a musical instrument or sports equipment

• Classroom essentials like pens, pencils, and school bags

• Specialist equipment for new curriculum activities

• IT equipment, such as laptops and tablets, if the school cannot provide them

• Equipment for out-of-school trips, like outdoor learning gear

For the 2024-2025 academic year, the grant offers:

• £125 per learner

• £200 for learners entering Year 7, acknowledging the additional costs associated with starting secondary school
  
  

Eligibility typically depends on receiving certain benefits, such as Income Support, Universal Credit, or Child Tax Credit. Applications are open until 31 May 2025.
