In our English lessons we have focused on creating non-chronological reports about Queen Victoria.
During week 3 of the module, we started to look at diary entries and what they are. In our first lesson we looked at the features of a diary entry and found them in some examples so we are ready to use them when we need to write our own next week.
During week 4 and 5 we looked at the life of a Victorian child and what it would be like to go to work as a child. We wrote diary entries and applied our skills of expanded noun phrases, commas, exclamation marks and adverbs in our writing.
We started the module by writing a recount about our half term because we were all very busy! Before we started writing out recounts we looked at what a recount is and what we need to make sure we include when we are writing one. To do this, we found specific features in recounts that have already been written such as past tense, adjectives and first person. As well as finding the features that need to be included, we discussed that recounts need to be in chronological order so it makes sense.
To link with our Inquiry learning, we have been learning about different habitats that living things survive in. To help us understand different habitats in more detail, we decided create non-chronological reports a habitat of our choise. To do this, we looked at different non-chronological reports and found their features. We also researched a habitat of our choice (desert, ocean, rainforest arctic) and planned our reports so we knew what we were including in our writing.
We used our research and planning lessons to create amazing non-chronologogical reports!
