Module 1
This module we have focussed on researching and designing the lit lanterns we will be building next term. We learnt about potential hazards that could be found in a workshop, safe practises and the types of tools and equipment we will be using.
N.C. When designing and making, pupils should be taught to: Design using research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose, aimed at particular individuals or groups generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through discussion and annotated sketches.
In our first lesson we were fantastic at identifying lots of hazards in an image of a poorly organised work shop. We then drew and labelled different tools we would be using for our projects. We were then given demonstrations of some of the other powerful tools which can be found in the workshop.
In our next lesson, we used our chromebooks to research lanterns from different cultures around the world. We then sketched multiple designs and annotated them with the features we liked and the reasons we chose them.
In our final session, we used designed the four panels we would be creating out of acetate for our lit lanterns. We also got the opportunity to safely use the workshop to begin accurately measuring the wood needed for our lanterns.
Module 2
This module we continued to work safely in the workshop to begin constructing our lanterns. We also decorated the acetate panels which will be a key element of our final lantens.
