Module 1
This module we have been learning about and creating sculptures inspired by different artists. In Module 1, we have been researching Ancient Greeks to inspire our sculptures.
N.C. Pupils should be taught: to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials [for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay] and about great artists, architects and designers in history.
The "Dropped Cone" sculpture by the Pop Art artist couple Coosje van Bruggen and Claes Oldenburg was our first inspiration. We used our origami skills to create out own interpretations.
In our next session, we used Ancient Greek architecture to inspire us. We looked at the shapes found within their building then recreated raised images using paper straws.
In our final session, we invited our parents in to share in the fun! We learnt about Ancient Greek thespians and the interesting masks they wore to portray characters. We then designed and created our own masks using clays. We used a variety of joining techniques, including scoring and slip.
Module 2
This module we have been learning about watercolurs and techniques used to paint with them.

In our first session we learnt how to change the tone by mixing different values in paint. We acheived this by adding more or less water the used this skill to recreate a piece of artwork.
Next, we focussed on our developing our brush stroke techniques. We began by experimenting with lots of different strokes before selecting specifuc brush strokes to recreate famous artworks.
Finally, we created still life paintings by developing a range of painting techniques.
