Module 1
This module we have been learning about living things and their habitats.
N.C. Pupils should be taught to: recognise that living things can be grouped in a variety of ways explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in their local and wider environment recognise that environments can change and that this can sometimes pose dangers to living things.
In our first session, we thought about what features animals have and how they relate to their habitats. We then used these features to classify them in Venn and Carroll diagrams.
In our next session, we used our investigative skills to find out which environment maggots preferred. We recorded then analysed the results to conclude our findings.
In our final session, this module, we took a trip to forest school with our classification keys. Using our knowledge, gathered from our previous investigation, we knew exactly where to find a variety of insects. We used a range of equipment to study then classify the insects we found.
Module 2
In our first session, we identified parts of the digestive system and even found out how it works by replicating it by using bowls, bags and tights! It was certainly and experience we won't forget.
In our next session, we identified different types of teeth in humans and animals by looking at diagrams, real animal skulls and our own teeth, We then conducted and experiment to find the best tooth paste for removing stains.
In our final session, we learnt all about food chains. We identified the different elements within the chain, classified their diets and thought about the connection between predators and prey. We then used what we had learnt to help us to complete SOLO tasks about types of food chains and what happens if the chain is broken by extinction.
