Unit Overview: In Unit 2, "Value and Color," our budding young artists will embark on an exciting journey into the world of color and the concept of value in art. This unit is designed to introduce kindergarten students to the fundamental elements of art, providing them with a solid foundation in understanding how color and value contribute to the beauty and depth of their artwork.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
Understand Value: Recognize and experiment with the concept of value in art, learning to differentiate between light and dark shades to create depth in their artwork.
Explore Color: Discover the primary colors and experiment with mixing them to create secondary colors, enabling them to express their ideas and emotions through color.
Hands-On Creativity: Engage in age-appropriate art projects that encourage exploration and creativity, applying their understanding of value and color to create unique and imaginative artworks.
Key Activities:
Color Exploration: Students will delve into the world of color through interactive activities, learning about the primary colors and how to combine them to create new colors. They will create their color wheels to reinforce their understanding.
Value Play: Through drawing, painting, and hands-on activities, kindergarteners will experiment with light and dark values, understanding how shading can make their art appear three-dimensional.
Art Projects: Students will engage in a series of art projects where they apply their knowledge of color and value. These projects will encourage creative expression and give students the opportunity to develop their skills.
Assessment: Assessment in this unit will primarily be formative and based on teacher observations, student participation, and the completion of art projects. The emphasis will be on encouraging creativity and the application of value and color concepts to their artwork.

This unit will provide our kindergarten artists with a fun and engaging introduction to the world of art, building their understanding of color and value as essential elements in creating beautiful and expressive artwork.
