Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
During the first half term - Learners will study the world of work and combine the knowledge of professions with the future tense and opinions. They have already come across the future tense in C7 so this will practise it in the context of their future working lives. They will discover some cognates and non-cognates linking the names given to jobs, with the concept that there is a difference in the name given to a male and female version of the job. They will also understand that there is no 'a' in front of the job ie I am a teacher = je suis professeur(e). They will learn how to describe their job, to say whether they like it or not and to express why using 'parce que'. They will use the future tense in the context of their plans for their GCSE school years and after they leave school. This topic becomes more elaborate in the KS4 curriculum.
During the second study period - The study period will give learners the ability to manipulate language more and to be able to refer to the past tense. This is in relation to the holidays they have just enjoyed!!! They also meet the imperfect tense in certain phrases such as il faisait or c'était...Although the focus is on 'je other pronouns should be used in order to reinforce what learners did in C7. The tasks and designs should be open ended enough so that learners have the opportunity to be creative. They will refer to prior learning and extend the knowledge of the language through analysing and recognizing patterns and the use of dictionaries/ iPads to identify new vocabulary.
