Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
Study Period 1 - Completed in the first half term. Learners will carry out a depth study of World War One. Learners will begin by exploring the causes of World War One, they will then write an essay about this. They then carry out case studies on different aspects of World War One, including the Schlieffen Plan, fighting in the trenches, the Battle of the Somme and Women in World War One. The unit culminates with an exploration of the long term geopolitical consequences of World War One and by considering whether they were really any winners or losers of the War.
Study Period 2 - Completed over half term two. Learners carry out a depth study of World War Two. Learners begin by looking at the rise of dictators across the Europe and Asia in the 1930s, and will move on to studying the causes of World War Two. Case studies of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, The Blitz, Evacuation and D-Day will also be completed. Finally we will look at how World War Two came to an end.

Assessment Points:
One end of unit assessment per unit. These assessments will typically include a Google Quiz to test learners' understanding of key terms and historical knowledge. There will also be questions that will allow teachers to assess the quality of written communication. In the World War One Unit learners will also complete an essay on the causes of World War One.
Guidance:
Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and close the gap activities.
