Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
This term, all English learning will be based on the novel ‘Noughts and Crosses’ by Malorie Blackman.
During the first half term, study period 1, learners will read the novel and explore elements of context, character, plot and setting, building on their skills of analysis and inference from C7. They will develop their analytical writing through exploring vocabulary, structure and meaning in more detail.
During the second half term, study period 2, learners will use the novel as a springboard for their own creative writing. Here, they will focus on different narrative types and how to adapt writing for different genres. They will continue to develop writing skills explored in C7, such as how to effectively use vocabulary, structures and language devices to create believable characters, descriptions and narratives.
