Course overview - Study Period 1 and 2
During the first half term - half term 1, learners will be studying different hazards. They will be learning about the layers of the earth, and how these layers can cause plates to move, creating different hazards. They will focus on earthquakes, volcanoes and what can be done to mitigate these hazards.
During the second study period - half term 2; learners will learn about the resources they use on a day to day basis. They will be looking at the resources that countries mainly produce, whilst looking at the impacts of these resources through the eyes of Malthus and Boserup. They will understand why it is important to move away from the use of non-renewable resources such as oil, and have a major focus on why wind power is so important through the writing of a persuasive letter to build a wind farm in Orkney.
