Course overview - Study Period 3 and 4
During the first half term, study period 3, learners will read the play ‘The Crucible’ and explore elements of context, character, plot and setting, further building on their skills of analysis and inference from C7. They will use an abridged version of Arthur Miller’s original text, focusing on key extracts. They will develop their analytical writing through exploring vocabulary, structure, ideas and meaning in more detail.
During the second half term, study period 4, learners will study the topic of ‘Convincing communication’. This is a non-fiction writing unit and they will focus on enhancing their use of vocabulary, content, linguistic and structural devices in order to improve their writing. They will also continue to develop key skills explored in C7, such as their use of spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Assessment Points:
Learners will undertake two longer written assessments per half term; a baseline at the start and a summative piece towards the end.
They will also have a variety of shorter formative assessments, including Google Quizzes, Q and A sessions and recall activities.
Guidance:
Learners will receive guidance in a variety of ways. These include marked assessments, reports, verbal feedback, written feedback in books, 1:1 interaction, Google Classroom and whole class feedback.
