Step by Step Guide - Flag Mounted
Step 1 — Mount Universal Plate to Junction Box
Connect the ground wire to the junction box
Pull the neutral (white) and hot (black) wires through the universal plate
Mount the universal plate to the junction box using E screws, ensuring correct orientation
Then proceed to B (Pendant/Flush Mount) or C (Flag Mount)
Step 2 — Prepare the Mounting Plate
Place E screws into holes B and C on the black mounting plate
Open the access panel (marked "OPEN") — use a screwdriver if needed
Step 3 — Attach Exit Sign to Mounting Plate
Line up the exit sign housing to the mounting plate via the side panel without the test button
Ensure the outside of the mounting plate touches the side panel, with the 3 side panel holes aligned to holes B and C
Fasten the nipple with the washer and nut inside the metal housing
Feed white and black wires through the nipple
Fasten the mounting plate to the universal plate using E screws
Step 4 — Connect Internal Wiring
Connect the LED strip, indicator LED, and test button to the PCB
⚠️ Do NOT connect the battery yet
Ensure the indicator LED is seated in the hole labeled "Ready" or "AC ON"
Step 5 — Close Up & Finish
Plug the battery into the BAT port on the PCB
Fold loose wires in and close the access panel
Attach chevron stickers to indicate direction
Step by Step: Pendent Mount
Step 1 — Mount Universal Plate to Junction Box
Connect the ground wire to the junction box
Pull the neutral (white) and hot (black) wires through the universal plate
Mount the universal plate to the junction box using E screws, ensuring correct orientation
Step 2 — Prepare the Nipple & Mounting Plate
Remove 1 nut and washer from the nipple assembly, leaving 1 nut on the nipple
Place the nipple through the center hole of the black mounting plate — do not fasten yet
Hold the mounting plate a few inches from the junction box and feed the white and black wires through the nipple
Insert D screws into the correct holes: holes A & C for pendant mount, holes A & D for flush mount
Step 3 — Attach Mounting Plate
Push the black mounting plate flush against the universal plate, with hole C to the left and hole A to the right of the nipple
Fasten the mounting plate to the universal plate using E screws through the top and bottom holes
Step 4 — Open the Exit Sign Housing
On the metal box, remove 2 diagonal black screws on the side panel without the test button and rotate the panel to reveal the exit sign channel
Open the access panel (marked "OPEN") and slide out the exit sign
Step 5 — Attach Exit Sign to Mounting Plate
Line up the 3 holes on the metal box to the nipple and screw positions (wide face for pendant, narrow face for flush)
Fasten the nipple with the washer and nut, and fasten the screws with C nuts
Step 6 — Connect Internal Wiring
Connect the LED strip, indicator LED, and test button to the PCB
⚠️ Do NOT connect the battery yet
Ensure the indicator LED cable is seated in the hole labeled "Ready" or "AC ON"
Step 7 — Close Up & Finish
Slide the exit sign back into its channel
Rotate the side panel back and re-fasten the 2 black screws
Plug the battery into the BAT port on the PCB
Fold loose wires in and close the access panel
Attach chevron stickers to indicate direction
Step by Step - Drop Ceiling
Step 1 — Remove the Exit Sign from Housing
Remove the mounting screws
Unplug the button, indicator LED, and LED strip
Unclip the safety chain lanyard
Step 2 — Fit Metal Box into Drop Ceiling
Pop out the ceiling tile from the grid
Loosen the set screws on the bar hangers, stretch the legs to fit the grid, then tighten the set screws to lock in place
Repeat for the second set
Step 3 — Cut Ceiling Tile & Attach Sign Plate
Use the metal box as a template to cut a hole in the ceiling tile
Place the ceiling tile over the metal box and set it into the subceiling grid
Attach the exit sign plate to the metal box with the safety chain
Step 4 — Adjust Housing Height
Use the wing nuts inside to adjust so the bottom of the housing sits flush with the ceiling
Loosen the adjustment plate screws, position correctly, then tighten to lock in place
Step 5 — Connect Wiring
Remove the cap on the junction box, remove a knockout hole, and feed the wires through
Connect the black lead cable to wall power and the white lead cable to neutral using the provided push connectors
Connect the LED strip, indicator LED, and test button to the PCB
⚠️ Do NOT connect the battery yet
Step 6 — Connect Battery & Apply Chevrons
Once continuous AC power is available, connect the battery to the BAT port
The indicator LED should blink red and green, then stay green
⚠️ If the LED turns red, the battery is in the wrong port
Apply chevron stickers using the provided templates to indicate direction
Step 7 — Reassemble
Reassemble the sign into the metal housing using the 2 mounting screws
Step by Step— Hard (Joist) Ceiling
Step 1 — Remove the Exit Sign from Housing
Remove the mounting screws
Unplug the button, indicator LED, and LED strip
Unclip the safety chain lanyard
Step 2 — Position the Metal Housing & Bar Hangers
Loosen the 2 set screws on each side to stretch the legs (bar hangers) to fit between the ceiling joists
Repeat for the second set of hangers
Temporarily secure by hammering the nail-in tabs, then permanently fasten with nails or screws
Bar hangers should be level with the bottom of the joists
Step 3 — Adjust Housing Height
Loosen the screws on the adjustment plate and position the housing so the bottom sits flat and flush with the ceiling
Tighten the screws once properly positioned
Step 4 — Connect Wiring
Remove the cap on the junction box
Using the provided push connectors, connect the black lead cable from the PCB to wall power and the white lead cable to neutral
Connect the LED strip, indicator LED, and test button to the PCB
⚠️ Do NOT connect the battery yet
Step 5 — Apply Chevrons & Connect Battery
Determine which direction the chevron arrows should point and apply using the provided templates
Once continuous AC power is available, connect the battery to the BAT port
The indicator LED should blink red and green, then stay green
⚠️ If the LED turns red, the battery is in the wrong port
Step 6 — Reassemble
Slide the exit sign back into the housing and fasten with 2 mounting screws
