Palm oil is the cause of many environmental problems.
First of all, palm oil, like all fats, is composed of fatty acids, esterified with glycerol. Palm oil has a lot of dangerous ingredients. In other words, palm oil is very easy to access, but bad for you and the environment.
For one palm oil causes deforestation. People cut down trees so that they can plant oil palm trees. And as humans cut down those trees, they are taking away the homes of millions of animals who lived there. Palm oil has endangered many species such as the orangutan and the sumatran rhino. Also, people burn down forests which leads to pollution.
Palm oil isn’t only in foods. It is also in cleaning products and self-care items such as shampoo. So even though it would be very hard to avoid palm oil completely, you can still make a difference. Try not to buy these common products that use palm oil.
And even though it may seem hard, you don’t need your Oreos and Fanta. Besides, this is only a small portion of the palm oil we use.
