In recent history, one of the most popular young adult book series, originating in the late 2000s, The Hunger Games, has been both a beloved and hated book series by a variety of audiences. The subsequent movie series of the same name has also had a fairly positive reception. Since the genesis of the series, many readers have wondered whether or not they would survive in the same conditions, and if so, what their strategy would be. We asked Explore Middle School students and teachers for their Hunger Games strategies. This is Explore’s Hunger Games Strategy, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Strategy #1: The Classic
For most EMS students and teachers, staying hidden seemed like the best option. The only issue with this strategy is that once you’re located and the Gamemakers know you're not engaging in the fight, the Gamemakers will likely force you into contact with your opponents, like in the first Hunger Games book.
Strategy #2: The Ruthless Peeta
For others, the strategy that seemed the best would be to make friends with your opponents, but then use the connection to betray them. With this strategy, it would be important to either take out all of the people in the group at once or leave ASAP after you’ve taken out one person to prevent the rest of the pack from going after you.
Strategy #3: The Smarter Foxface
This strategy is similar to the first one but involves sabotage. This strategy allows you to stay hidden but move at the same time. You also gain resources. The trick here is to know your berries, so as to prevent poisoning.
Some Explore students thought their best strategy would lie outside of Strategy #1, like 7th grader Nathaniel Delgado, who said, “My best bet would probably be camouflage.”
However, after interviewing many Explore students, the strategy that seemed the most popular was Strategy #1, The Classic. In addition to being popular among Explore students, within the world of Panem, the strategy is also quite popular, as it requires little confrontation. When speaking of Strategy #1, students agreed that it was the best strategy. 6th grader Sinaa Willaims said, “Stay away from them as far as possible and not make alliances.”
Well, the school has spoken. If you haven’t read The Hunger Games book series, be sure to do so before the new Hunger Games movie based on the recently written prequel comes out. Let us know your thoughts on what your Hunger Games strategy would be.
