Explore has a lot of great things, but nothing is perfect. The cafeteria, for example. Some have wondered: is a cafeteria or not?
Currently, you walk in the front entrance of the school, then you enter the cafeteria in between the front office and the gym. Some argue it’s a hallway, some argue it's a cafeteria. Nobody really knows. Most people call it the cafeteria just so everyone knows what they are talking about.
The definition of cafeteria according to Webster’s Dictionary is “A restaurant or dining room in a school or a business in which customers serve themselves or are served from a counter, and pay before eating.” The Explore Cafeteria does not meet the standards of the definition of a cafeteria. The Explore Cafeteria is an open space where students can sit down and eat. The Explore cafeteria is not a room and it's not an enclosed space.
“The cafeteria is just a hallway that leads to the gym that has chairs and food. It could be better if it looked more like a cafeteria,” said Explore student Timothy Jette.
It appears that students consider the cafeteria a true cafeteria because it is the place we eat lunch
Other students have suggested maybe changing the location of the cafeteria or enclosing it a bit more, it would look more like a cafeteria.
“Maybe move the cafeteria to a different room, and separate it from the hallways and the gym,” Explore student Luke Bridda suggested.
The problem with this is that it would cost a lot of money to move the cafeteria. Also, what would happen to the students, would they just not have school until the construction is done? They would have to do it during summer break, which means the school staff would have to be alert to the news on the school, which wouldn't be much of a break.
“I think it is because the cafeteria is a space where you eat lunch,” said Explore student Hudson Phillips.
Some students consider the cafeteria a cafeteria because it is the place they are familiar with eating lunch.
A lot of things aren’t perfect, and it seems that most Explore students think the cafeteria is one of them.
