The month of October holds a lot for the Explore Middle School, including the Week of Respect and Unity day. The biggest event of October, however, is our Student Council Election Day and Halloween party, which is held in late October where people can run for Advisory Representative, Vice President, or the most popular spot, President.
This upcoming week we will have our 2021-2022 Election. Advisories from all three grades have people running for Advisory Representative. The eighth-graders are also eligible to run for President and Vice President. You could imagine this to be difficult right? Well, the process isn’t as hard as you might think. The tricky part of it all is getting your initial three nominations. Once you receive your nominations, you may start work on your campaign speech. Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates speak to the whole school while the Advisory Nominees only speak to their advisory.
The competitive aspect of it is always there, but in Explore even if you don’t win, there is always a chance for you to get involved. Explore students try hard, and the good thing is the possibility of having two years to practice before the big job opens up. Unfortunately, only 8th graders are able to run for President but 6th and 7th graders have equal opportunities, such as running for Advisory Representative.
The responsibilities and pillars that need to be followed in order to run are very important. This includes having good grades, not failing classes, and not making fun of people or being rude. Some responsibilities that need to be kept up include being devoted to helping the school, being a good example for classmates, and following through with all your promises.
