There’s no doubt that the Capitol insurrection that was unleashed a bit over two months ago will have a large effect on our country for an extended period of time. It will go down in the history books, but more importantly, there’s a chance it will have a large and lasting effect on the government and your security.
After 9/11, the war on terror that President George W. Bush waged did not just target terrorist organizations on the other side of the world. The war on terror was infamously used to spy and eavesdrop on everyday American citizens in the name of counter-terrorism. There’s a high probability that it will be the same with the Biden Administration.
President Joe Biden has said that one of his top priorities is to curb domestic and homegrown terrorism. What does that mean? Well, looking back at the war on terror, it might mean the expansion of the surveillance state and big brother.
Think about this, back in 2001 the internet was still in its infancy. Now, it is an essential part of our lives and daily routine, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic. If the government was looking over us then, think about how much more they could do it now.
Right now, the technology is only being used to target only the people who were storming the Capitol on that day, but after they’ve finished with them, they’re not going to want to stop. We must make sure that tyranny does not expand into daily life.
