On February 12, 2023 the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35. The Chiefs are the 2022-2023 NFL Champions. The game was very close until the last play. Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes was amazing going 21 for 27 and 182 yards passing.
The Chiefs’ Travis Kelce could not be guarded, catching 6 balls for 81 yards. He scored the first touchdown for the Chiefs. Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco had a good game on the ground averaging 5.1 yards per carry. He was the explosiveness the Chiefs needed with QB Patrick Mahomes being hobbled with an ankle injury.
Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t stop trying, but fell just short. With 8 seconds left Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker drilled a field goal, which was the dagger. One of the interesting takes by NFL fans was that Gardner Minshew (the Eagles backup quarterback) should have been in during the last play of the game (which was a hail mary). Jalen Hurts, a great quarterback, has a lot of talent, but not a strong arm. Gardner Minshew is not as talented as Jalen Hurts, but has a stronger arm and should have been out there for the last play.
Another take by NFL fans was whether the holding call should have been called? There were 8 seconds left in the game when Eagles cornerback James Bradberry was called for holding Chiefs wide receiver JuJu-Smith Schuster. During the game fans booed the call thinking it was very controversial. The commentators didn’t think it was holding, but after the game Bradberry said he was holding him. Another interesting fact about this call was that the ref on the other side of the field called it, not the one right next to the play.
Many people have said the Eagles messed up with the last play of the game. Many people say that the holding call was messed up. Could this have changed the outcome of the game? Could the Eagles have been in the confetti? Or would nothing have changed?
