Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need an X-Carve, a Computer, and SVG files I can upload to create a design.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to create an X-Carve sign that stars my original characters in a Halloween aesthetic.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will have unique characters that I have made, such as red and blue, and a character that my brother made known as Inksans.
I created the website and started on my list of 10 and planning questions. I just need one more idea, but I am sure that I will choose either idea #1 or #7, but #1 is more likely.
I mixed ideas #1 and #7 to create a Halloween themed carve utilizing the characters Red, Blue, Inksans, and Epix.
I got the wood I needed to create this project, and found the measurements, but sadly I failed to clamp the wood onto the X-Carve Machine.
I worked with my teacher to fix an error in the measurement and get the X-Carve machine running with my design.
Using a computer and an X-Carve, I created a wood carve of a Halloween design starring my original characters because I wanted to do something different besides a scratch project again. I had made 3 separate scratch projects before, and wanted to do something new. This project also allowed me to create a design using scratch while not just being a scratch game.
During this process, I learned how to create a design for an X-Carve. I also learned how to set up an X-Carve to allow it to create the design. This process included importing the design to the website from scratch, uploading it to the X-Carve, finding a wooden board that I could use to place the design onto, and getting the X-Carve ready to carve by doing things such as plugging in the X-Carve's vacuum.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I took something that already exists and put my own spin on it. I took the idea of a wood carving, and I added my own design to the wood carving.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting the clamps onto the wooden board. There are these clamps that you have to place onto the wooden board so it doesn't move while the carving is happening, but I did not know how to get them on. I was able to do it by asking for help, which lead me to have a classmate help me get the clamps on.
Given a chance to do this again, I would fix the errors in the design. Some parts of the design were not cut correctly, and there is some fuzz around the cuts. The reason why I would change it is because the design is not supposed to have these errors.
