Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I am working by myself.
What materials will you need for your project?
I will need a computer, Scratch, and ways to get free audio/music.
What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan is to create a playable video game.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will include Hoodows, which are an original character I created,
and will be a mix between a Military Style game and a Tower Defense game.
I started to think about what I would use to make my project. Code.org and Cricut seem the most interesting, though I would rather use Scratch.mit.edu instead of Code.org, as I have more experience with Scratch than Code.org.
After further consideration, I figured that I had to ask if I could use scratch instead of code.org, and I got a yes, so I will be making a Project on Scratch.
I finished my list of 10 good ideas, and started to work on the one I chose. I created some assets for a few of the troops, created a statue, and made some of the leaders.
I switched the game from the characters having to target enemies, to summoning enemies in lanes, as I had no idea how to make multiple clones follow other clones. I added some stats in the game, but no real gameplay yet. Tommorow i'm hoping I can make your troops, as well as enemies, actually summon.
I added the ability for enemies and spawned troops to move towards the enemies to damage each other. I will now need to find a way to give each individual enemy a different damage.
I worked on my project during the weekend, adding a new character to summon, adding a win and lose screen, and adding some other minor changes.
Using Scratch, I created a battle game where you send troops against an enemy AI because I thought is was the most creative yet easy to accomplish in the time span. Some of the other ideas seemed either to much of a skull of an idea to be a game or would take too long to be finished. This one seemed the most reasonable while also being a really fun game to make.
During this process, I learned how to screen record using a Chromebook. I tried using Loom to record on my computer, but I had some error with it, and the video was not saved. I then switched to recording with my Chromebook when I got home, and the video was finished.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I took a video game concept that already existed and put my own spin on it. I took the idea of a video game where you send troops to fight for you and put my own Hoodow spin on it.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the characters not being able to target certain enemies due to clones not being able to face other clones. I looked on the internet but didn't really find an answer. I finally decided to change the gameplay from a flat map to lanes.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the low amount of characters and add more troop types, as well as a way to change the color of your team. The reason why I would change it is because the game may get stale and boring after a while. If I did add this, the variability in characters and looks may spice things up and add more gameplay.
