Role of Technology in Health Sector

E-Health is an overarching term used today to describe the application of information and communications technologies in the health sector. It encompasses a whole range of purposes from purely administrative through to health care delivery.

1. The vision of Digital India programme is to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The Indian government embraces and support the move towards a digital India. One of the key initiatives of Digital India is e-Health – to unleash the power of technology for better health, better medication, better facilities and so better lives and to make it available to the farthest corner of the country. Health Care would be the space most impacted by digital India (through better access to quality knowledge, clarity in understanding and greater transparency).

2. Hospitals are part of the network providing medical advice through telemedicine, quality healthcare can reach people living in remote areas for which Digital India can come in handy. The Digital India initiative is being effectively used for improving medicare and education.

3. Ehealth helps to reach healthcare to the country’s poorest of the poor.

4. Technology provides greater, and faster, access to a patient’s medical history, reducing the risk of negative drug interactions or poor response to a course of treatment.
