India which is specially known for its culture,tradition and festivals.In the Indian culture, there was a time when there used to be a festival every day of the year – 365 festivals in a year – because a festival is a tool to bring life to a state of exuberance and enthusiasm. That was the significance and importance of festivals. The whole culture was in a state of celebration. If today was ploughing day, it was a kind of celebration. Tomorrow was planting day, another kind of celebration.
We celebrate many festivals in our school and spread the joy and happiness all over the school.
On the occasion of independence day, To add on a fervor of patriotism along with some fun, classes cooked Tri coloured Paasta and presented it creatively showcasing the National Flag of India .
The birthday of the Mahatma Gandhi is celebrated in India every year by the name Gandhi Jayanti or Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Students of our school celebrated this day by participating in the Debate on the topic- Gandhian Ideals of Truth and Non Violence are relevant even today. Students enthusiastically presented their views and enjoying cross questioning each other too.
Our school also celebrates international festivals like world health day which is celebrated on 7 April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization. Class 8 got an opportunity to present on the theme 'How advertisement affects the way we eat'. The class was divided into groups and each group prepared a collaborative presentation on the given theme using Google/Microsoft tools. They also prepared amazing role plays depicting the theme that effectively showcased the harmful effects of eating while watching advertisements on TV. The activity seemed to be an eye opener for the students as they got involved in considerable research on the topic to be effective presenters.
Being active participants of the ‘Generation Global’ Program under the aegis of Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, the students of our school participated in video conferencing session . The agenda for the session was Festivals. Students from different countries had dialogues on topics like what do festivals mean to them, why do they celebrate festivals, which is their favourite festival and what do one or more of these festivals mean to them personally. The students asked response questions and also gave reflections on what they learnt from each other through the dialogue.
