We are Naufal, Alerick, Daffa, Adit, Farrell, Vizenthe and Ferga from Year 11, decided to group ourselves to create a CAS project related to helping communities that suffer from eye diseases. Our CAS project required weeks of research about eye diseases that are critical and have affected millions of lives in Indonesia. In the course of our research, we found out about an NGO called Sejuta Kacamata that has facilitated millions of Indonesians who need glasses but cannot afford them. We decided to contact the directors of Sejuta Kacamata and see whether or not they were willing to work together with us. After all the agreements were made, we started to promote our campaign through social media and other platforms.
Even though the campaign ran smoothly, there were some deadlines we did not manage to meet. This led to frustration and stress as we were not able to do our tasks effectively and efficiently. We managed to overcome this through solid teamwork and cooperation. Another obstacle we faced throughout the process was finding the right time to meet with the NGO. It was difficult to find a date suitable for all parties.
The collection process took place from October 2019 up to January 2020. There were three donation boxes placed at strategic points around the campus. The donation also came from other parties such as suppliers from other schools and other NGOs. We have collected almost 100 pairs of glasses both from school donations and from other parties. By the end of the donation period (January 2020), we had consolidated all glasses donated from different sources. We then officially donated the glasses to Sejuta Kacamata’s owner Pak Denny. Alongside the donation, we also had time to interview him on his perspective of the dangers of eye diseases and what Sejuta Kacamata is going to do in the future to achieve their goal of decreasing the number of eye disease cases in Indonesia.
