It has been an exceptional month in Primary! Here are some of the highlights.
Year 6 students shared their exhibition journey with the school community and interested schools in Batam and West Papua via Skype.
Year 5 students participated in a Model United Nations experience which led to the passing of resolutions on safety and security, climate action and poverty.
Year 4 students collected and reflected on data from different aspects of their lifestyles and are now taking personal action through lifestyle choices.
Year 3 students presented an amazing assembly on finite and infinite energy sources and their implications for society.
Year 2 students created stop motion videos to explore and explain the concept of interdependence.
Year 1 students explored the concept of subtraction by participating in a hilarious game of ‘Subtraction Smash’.
Reception students used VR goggles for the first time to experience colour in different natural environments.
Kindergarten students participated in water and land exploration activities based on the 14th (Life Below Water) and 15th (Life on Land) UN Sustainable Development Goals.
To participate in these learning engagements students drew on their approaches to learning skills.
Approaches to learning skills are interrelated and transferable across contexts. These skills support purposeful inquiry and set the foundations for lifelong learning. The development of these skills is frequently identified as crucial in supporting students to effectively learn and succeed inside and outside of school. (Wagner 2014).
The approaches to learning skills are divided into five categories; thinking skills, communication skills, research skills, social skills and self-management skills. Whether students, teachers or parents, we all utilise the approaches to learning skills on a daily basis in various contexts, both in and outside of school.
Several teachers utilised the approaches to learning skills during the final weekend of February by facilitating workshops at the PYP Dunia Teachers’ Conference. PYP teachers from all over Indonesia gathered at Global Jaya School to attend a variety of workshop around the theme of ‘Well-being and Welfare’. While 25 workshops were offered, 13 were designed and facilitated by our innovative and passionate teachers. Congratulations to the following teachers on their efforts and success at the conference:
