I've started to film some clips relevant to the storyboards I've been making and have started to put them together with some really basic editing using Premier Rush on my iPad. None of them have sound yet (except for 1), and that's just because I wanted to fit in some ASMR sounds and it was pretty hard to do when you're in lockdown and live with 4 other family members, but I will get the sound on soon!
(Please put the settings up to 1080p HD for better quality videos)
This first sequence is me setting up my kitchen into a make shift work studio for me to do some work, and getting my clay out ready. I really like my sequence of getting the clay out but would like to film the beginning again from a different angle - I'm not happy with the angle I had as you couldn't really see what was going on so I want to try an overhead shot of the table being cleared.
I tried something different in the second sequence where i'm shaping and wedging the pieces of clay. I layered 2 different angles of the same thing happening, one played much slower than the other. I quite liked the effect it gave and it was really satisfying how the clay ends up in the right place with the next clip.
I had fun with the 3rd sequence of using the different angles of the same shot and playing around with how to put them together.
This is the only sequence with some sound, which is really satisfying to me. So you can imagine what i'm trying to achieve in the other clips with this one.
This last sequence has some inconsistency in the fact that it starts with me cutting out strips to make a ringed foot around the bottom of the form i'm making, but then I ended up changing my mind and made small round feet instead.... but I still left in the footage for now.
I'm still not 100% sure what my final 'form' is going to be for this video yet, this was more of a test run of my storyboard so I'm not sure yet if I'll still with creating a more traditional form or something new.
This week I didn't have as much time to film but what I wanted to explore was a different way of capturing video by following along the process with the camera. Now of course I couldn't do this alone as I only have 2 hands so I had my sister help me so I could try and film in the new style I wanted to try out. So by following/zooming in & out while mixing in some slow motion and time lapse I think it will fit better to my video so I can include snippets of each part without making a super long video.
The first clip has me following along the process of opening the clay bag. I was pretty happy with these shots and I just need to figure out how/if im going to be the one filming or doing for this part (aka can I get a family member to have the patience to help me and do it correct hahaha).
I was having a bit more fun with this part and capturing the process of prepping the clay. I liked the thought of doing a quick pan of this part being done and then getting a slow motion close up on the clay being bashed down on the counter (you don't want to know how many takes it took to get the shot of it falling from the side right). The last clips was me just playing around with the thought of getting the 2 perspectives to join, although I don't think i'll be throwing clay down on my iphone camera again, it was actually really heavy and I almost thought I broke my phone!
