Following on from making my first storyboards I wanted to begin gathering footage to gain a better understanding on what steps are the important ones to include for my video (and to make storyboarding not as long!).
I started by filming some shots of my kiln (as I found that the most exiting part to figure out for the video) and found that there was some satisfying noises that come with turning on the kiln. This first short clip is me turning the power on to my kiln and the second clip is a close up of the hinge going into place when lifting the lid up on the kiln. (I do realise I filmed in portrait, but these are only test clips so I will know better next time)
I know the camera isn't steady in the second clip but it was really hard to film steady on one hand while the other is lifting up a really heavy kiln lid. So next time i'd either set up the camera on a tripod or have someone help me film. But what I was going for in these clips was to test out different angles and see what parts I wanted to capture.
This next clip is 3 different clips put together of the same thing happening but from different angles. This was something I was struggling with in my storyboards was imagining which angles I'd want to shoot from so by going and actually filming things it really helped me figure stuff like this out. I personally think the 3rd angle works best so that's what I'll be doing for future parts of my storyboard that i'm struggling with.
This last compilation of clips is from inside my kiln! I really wanted to include angles from inside as I have a top loading kiln I often don't get to see a different angle from inside. So here I was figuring out different pov's in these test shots. (I was using my little jellyfish from my last project as test pieces as that's all I had available in my shed at the time)
I personally feel that the second clip from inside the kiln works best as you can see the most and more than one shelf being loaded as iv'e used a half shelf. The last clip was also pretty cool having the pov of a pot looking up as the kiln is closing however i'm not so sure on how much of my face I would like to include in this video (I mean that angle isn't the best either!).
