One of the first things I did in my project was make a tissue paper version of my first idea. I cut out hundreds of pieces of tissue paper, hole punched them all and threaded them together with beads to create my tissue paper jellyfish model. From this I could see and understand how my ideas could work.
My jellyfish sketchbook begins with some quick sketches I made while at the sea zoo. Then I began making small watercolour paintings of the moon jellyfish based on the photos/videos I took.
Worksheet I made based on the moon jellyfish I saw.
Then I started making watercolour paintings of true jellyfish, which are the species I was going to concentrate on for my project. My friend Jess McGee directed me to the fact that there a live cams of these jellyfish on youtube, so I watched a few and painted along side them so it was like getting a first hand view on how they move.

This sketchbook has the developments sketches on the technical parts of creating these jellyfish.
Then I have glaze designs (I'm sorry they're sideways, it won't let me change it and every time I redownload they turn sideways too). Flick through the image carousel.
Final designs - Flick through the image carousel.
I was playing with iridescent nail polishes that come out a different colour on black paper. The green was originally red, blue was originally pink and purple was originally blue (sorry if that was confusing). After making all these different lines I started to see them as jellyfish tentacles so I cut out a few jellyfish heads/bells and added them on places I thought they'd work well.
This was my favourite worksheets to make- it was really messy. I played around with string and paint to create these lovely tentacle like shapes. Layering them up really created the depth and illusion of movement.
I also played around with ink and the patterns, translucency and movement I could create by using them.
This sketchbook is where I started so it has a bit of everything in it - some parts are in other blog posts- but it has sketches, research, library artist research & paintings.
