My name is Jessica Nadira, i'm 21 years old and currently studying in my second year of Art & Design. I'm half Welsh, half Guyanese but have lived in North Wales my whole life. All my life I have been creating art, whether it was cutting up a potato to create paint stamps or using one of my mum’s exotic fruit to create patterns. While art wasn’t always my first career choice throughout school, I always seemed to come back to it and couldn’t let it go. When I came to 6th form, I knew it was my passion and I had this burning ambition to study art at a higher level.
What helped me decide that my future would be in the art industry was being deeply inspired by my heritage and culture. Learning about my Indian ancestors and Caribbean culture drove me on to delve deeper into creating art on it. I explored and learnt many aspects of who I am and what really influences my creativity.
From my discovery of becoming a ceramicist, this past year (2020) I have been working towards creating my own space outside of College where I can begin setting myself up independently. I bought my first kiln over the summer, therefore allowing myself the freedom of overseeing the whole process while also learning the technicalities of being a kiln owner. My home studio, which is an outside block shed, is still a work in progress, however my kiln is installed which allows me to work from home.
