Why?

Secondary students need to meet the overall expectations to earn credit(s) and/or complete program requirements.

Teachers need to provide content, feedback, assessment and evaluation so students can meet the overall expectations.

How?

Cooperative Education

Students taking Cooperative Education are able to earn credits through the use of a blend of synchronous and asynchronous delivery.

Teachers choose which platform works for them and their students.

  • Platform Suggestions for asynchronous delivery of content: D2L, Google Classroom

  • Platform Suggestions for synchronous “check-ins:’ Adobe Connect, Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams

  • Using Cooperative Education related course or DCO3O course content in D2L, online certifications, virtual field trips, Teacher Created Videos, Teacher Created Presentations, My Blueprint


Specialist High Skills Majors

  • Using teacher resources and course content in the VLE, online certifications, virtual field trips, students will be able to:

  • earn certifications towards their SHSM program through online training.

  • complete Reach Aheads through virtual sessions

  • Students will be able to complete Cooperative Education courses currently in progress.


Dual Credits

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

  1. Use resources in VLE and additional resources that will be provided.

  2. Online certifications from Norcat will be organized and communicated.

What?

Students are expected to engage in the required number of hours of learning per week for cooperative education courses (see below).

Students will be offered Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship Challenges in Major Sector courses.

Teachers will continue to work with school staff including the SERT, guidance counsellors, student success teachers and attendance counsellors to provide ongoing supports for students


Cooperative Education

Content Focus:

  • Cooperative Education credits:

For 1-credit coop, students will spend 3 hours per week to work on integration and the culminating task.

For a 2-credit coop, students will spend 4-6 hours per week to work on integration, certifications and the culminating task.

For a 3-credit coop, the student has already earned 1 coop credit. For the remaining 2 credits, students will do the following:

  1. Spend 3 hours per week completing integration and the culminating task for one coop credit.

  2. Spend 3 hours per week completing key learning from Strands C & D of DCO 3O (available in D2L).

For a 4-credit coop, the student has already earned 1 coop credit. For the remaining 3 credits, students will do the following:

  1. Spend 3 hours per week completing integration and the culminating task for one coop credit.

  2. Spend 6 hours per week completing key learning from Strands C & D of DCO 3O (available in D2L).

Specialist High Skills Majors

Content Focus:

  • Students are able to earn cooperative education credits based on the information outlined.

  • Certifications aligned with ministry approved Specialist High Skills Majors certifications.

  • ICE (Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship) challenges can be offered to students by Major Sector teachers through distance learning.

Specialist High Skills Majors

We will be coordinating online certifications commencing April 6, 2020. Students will be able to access online certifications with a tentative start date of April 20, 2020.
