Alternative Education

Why?

Day School Alternative Education students, secondary school continuing education students and adult continuing education students need to complete course requirements to earn credit(s).

Supervised Alternative Learning (SAL) students need to continue to complete course requirements to earn credits(s).

Teachers need to continue to provide content so students can complete requirements.

How?

Types of Learning

  • Asynchronous Learning: All students will continue to work on booklet courses and/or hybrid e-Learning courses.

  • Midterm and final examinations will be waived.


Types of Tools to Facilitate Learning

Teachers will continue to use PRISM or Docushare.

  • Asynchronous tools for delivery of content will continue with the use of booklet courses and D2L (Virtual Learning Environment).

  • Guidance teachers will continue to use PRISM to register students.

  • PACE teachers and Attendance Counsellors will continue to use D2L email, Adobe Connect, and phone calls to facilitate learning.

  • Students will continue to use the scanner app on iPads to upload lessons to the ‘dropbox’ in D2L.

  • Adult and Supervised Alternative Learning (SAL) students who require support with uploading lessons will email the completed lessons to PACE teachers to upload. This will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

  1. PACE teachers will contact all alternative education students to provide them with an update.

What?

Student Guidelines:

  • Students will continue with the completion of the lessons in their course. The midterm and final examinations will be waived for all students taking courses through P.A.C.E.

  • Students will have the opportunity to complete online certifications and sessions.

  • Students will be offered the opportunity to complete online certifications and virtual sessions with Employment Options.

  • Further details regarding adult dual credits will be provided when it becomes available.

Teacher Guidelines:

  • Teachers are encouraged to work with their principals, vice-principals, instructional coaches, and system leads to develop their distance learning plan.

  • Teachers will continue to work with school staff including the SERT, guidance counsellors, student success teachers and attendance counsellors to provide ongoing supports for students.
