The read aloud book for this week begins our new book theme about the importance of friendship.
NAME TRACING PRINTABLES: Students should practice writing their name and
the numbers at least 2 times each day. They may also want to practice their friends' names!
Read: (with help) all the spelling and sight word slides from above. Work on chopping up and sliding through words. Read the vocabulary book Trains found above. Look for and practice your yellow sight words.
Word work: Write spelling words on the yellow practice sheet. Illustrate and cut out sight words on the back.(pages 1 and 2 of printables)
Write: Print your name page from above. Start each day with 2 lines of tracing practice. Make sure to start where I added dots on the first example.
Phonics: practice the zoo phonics actions and sounds each day. The Zoo Phonics letters and video are at the bottom of this page.
Homework: Send me a picture of your illustrated sight word flashcards. You can use the message feature on the parent ClassDojo. We will begin using Seesaw when all parents have the login codes.
Read 20 minutes, at least 10 on Reading A-Z. The link and passwords are below. Students have used this in class. They go to "level up" and listen and read to books at their reading level.
Read: the white books sent home on Monday. Fun in the Sun and Bud. You can circle sight words and highlight short u sounds.
Word work: "write the room" scavenger hunt. Words are on the picture cards on the second page. This is pages 5 and 6 of the printables.

Listen: to the read aloud video above. Discuss the book with a parent as you pause at interesting parts.

Homework: Seesaw a picture of the page from your journal. Seesaw is bookmarked on the student's Chomebook/Google account. They also have the Seesaw app loaded on their Kindles. Read 20 minutes with an adult. Check out the Reading Corner page to find great tips for early readers and their parents.
Spelling test: Print the spelling test form. An adult orally gives spelling test. Child records words on the spelling test form. Children should try to write 2 sentences on the bottom using a spelling word. Please mark incorrect words with an x and have students practice words they missed in their journal.
Scholastic News Article: Click the scholastic news link below. Find the "Smile, It's Autumn" article. watch the videos, click through vocabulary and then listen and read the article. Do all skill-building sheets at the bottom of the page. Games and activities are optional.
Homework: Submit a photo of test on Seesaw.
Read with an adult for 20 minutes. Practice sounding out and then "sliding" through words. Look for sight words that you know. Slowly slide though words you may have guessed to make sure the letters match the word(this is "cross-checking").

Zoo Phonics- Children should practice their letter names and sounds each day. Print the Zoo phonics chart to refer to when children are reading and writing. Watch the video to learn the actions that go with each letter. Then practice on your own to see how quickly children can remember and make the letter sounds.
