EVERY lesson has a reflection in the last 5 minutes. WHAT - SO WHAT - NOW WHAT?
This is where you get yourself ready for the lesson and use the BACK of your book to do a quick task. It will usually be a quick quiz, a revision from the last lesson, or some English skills and knowledge that we will be needing to use this lesson, like grammar or punctuation.
You will need your full attention and there is a reward for the students who complete the task first or get the highest score.
For 15 minutes, we will work on the 'gaps' in our knowledge from primary school, usually with one singular focus (e.g. 'definite and indefinite pronouns').
This needs to be completed quickly and will usually relate to the core lesson task.
This is where we explore the unit we are studying, and build upon the knowledge of the previous lessons. We will usually be working on a task independently or in small groups. Distracting others from their work will result in being placed in a seating plan.
This is where we pause, wherever we are up to, and ask the three core reflection questions:
What did we learn? What was the purpose of our lesson today?
How did this relate to the bigger unit we are studying? How does it connect to our lives in other ways?
Now we have these skills or this knowledge from today's lesson, what can we do better in the future?
