Play a warm-up drama game - Silent Ball / Whoosh / Crows & Cranes
In small groups, create a role-play about a situation where a person experiences racism and stands up for themselves.
Each group present their role-play to the class and discuss as a whole. Otherwise, they must write it out in FULL as a transcript.
A person goes to a store and a security guard says they took something but they didn't. They tell the guard they bought it and ask for an apology.
First line: "Excuse me sir, I have a receipt for that item"
Other characters: Store security guard, other customers
A person doesn't get a job because of their race and talks to the person who made the decision.
First line: "Can I speak with you about the job I applied for?"
Other characters: Employer, other job applicants
A person's coworkers make racist comments and they tell their boss.
First line: "I need to talk to you about something that's been happening at work."
Other characters: Coworkers, supervisor
A person goes to a restaurant and the staff won't serve them because of their race and they protest.
First line: "I'm not leaving until I get served like everyone else"
Other characters: Wait staff, other diners
A person is accused of a crime they didn't do because of their race and they prove they are innocent.
First line: "I didn't do it, I swear! Can you please look at this alibi?"
Other characters: Police officer, witnesses.
