Perceptions of oneself are constantly shifting, and I attempted to embrace this concept by representing movement as moving away from one's original sense of self whilst remaining anchored to one's original perception, leaving impressions and traces behind. Disassociation in everyday life is ultimately defined by a disconnect between one's thoughts, feelings, memories, or sense of identity. In order to embrace this concept, I used long exposure and bright coloration to create a sense of hallucination and static movement. By documenting a single, stagnant figure that is more evident, the movement and impressions surrounding said figure represent change.
My artmaking practice has been influenced by the study and interpretation of the following artists:
Olivia Buckton, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Sara Heinrichs
