I explored ideas of nostalgia and personal memories through my photography. By introducing a series of blurred photographs to my audience, I wish to make them feel a warm, nostalgic wave of their own and make them think of their own precious experiences.
My images, all taken from inside my home, convey memory and nostalgia due to their pinkish blur. I decided to use this effect to remind my audience of childhood and evoke a wave of calmness and comfort. The harsh exposure of light adds to the concept of memory, as it links to having a bright future drawn from your past and those memories. The pictures depicted, specifically doors and windows and their shadows, symbolise an entrance to those happy thoughts from your childhood and to hopefully make many more.
To create my BOW, I was influenced by artist Uta Barth to use techniques I didn’t originally think of. Uta Barth’s photography is very unique and that is something I would like to try to include in all my art. By using a blur effect, she manages to create a hazy, ‘memory’ feel in her images, making the audience think carefully about what is depicted in her photographs, challenging the idea of perception. I wish to use this to show memory and nostalgia in my images. Instead of using a proper camera, I decided to use the camera app on my phone as the quality is lower, adding to the hazy effect in my images. I covered the camera with a dusty-pink cloth to give it a pinkish hue before further editing through photoshop.
