Why study Music?

Studying music allows you to learn how to play at least two instruments and develops your understanding of music theory and history as well as learning to write your own music! 

Studying music allows you to develop your creative thinking and problem solving skills and encourages you to work both collaboratively and independently.  You will learn to think about music in a more critical way and use your skills in analysing to identify and explain musical concepts in a wide variety of styles. 

You do not need to get music lessons outside of school to complete this course. Everything you need to know will be taught in class! Music is an excellent way to build your skills in resilience and determination which are vital for the world of work. 


Employment in Creative Industries is growing 4 times faster than any other employment category in the UK work force. Aside from becoming a musician, choosing to study music can lead to exciting careers in; advertisement and marketing, journalism, sound production, events management and planning, community work, intergenerational work and much more! A qualification in music is recognised by colleges and universities as an important qualification that demonstrates that you are creative thinker, committed to your work and have strong determination.
