Music Technology

S1 Music Technology - Course Outline

Pupils at MGS attend Music Technology once a week in S1 and S2

Introduction to Mixcraft

Pupils will be introduced to the Mixcraft software and be shown how to create digital music using loops. This will give pupils the foundation needed to continue working with DAWs (Digital Audio Workstation) and progressing with more advanced techniques.

Introduction to Sound Design

Pupils will be introduced to sound design, the art of recreating sound for film. All pupils will start with the same starter project (Spiderman), creating the soundscape for a short film clip. Pupils will then choose from a selection of film clips to complete on their own.

Audiobook Project (the Gruffalo)

Pupils will create an audiobook using pre recorded dialogue. Pupils will need to cut up the pre recorded audio and arrange the audio using the book as reference. Pupils will then process the audio appropriately for each character and add sound effects and background music.

Remix Project

Pupils will remix a song using a mix of original stems and new audio loops from the Mixcraft library. Pupils will need to follow the original structure of the song creating a verse, pre chorus and chorus for their remix.

Hardware and Recording Techniques (Commentary Project)

Pupils will choose a video from Youtube and add commentary to it using microphones. Pupils will need to record, edit and process their own dialogue and mix it with the original video.
