ABOUT THE COURSE
In the Higher Photography course you will gain hands-on experience of using DSLR cameras, techniques and controls used by professional photographers. You will also learn how to recognise and analyse different photography styles & genres, as well as compose well taken photographs. In this course you will:
Learn how to use exposure times, composition and framing for photographic effect
Learn about contact sheets and how best to select final photographs
Learn how to develop your digital manipulation skills further.
In your portfolio, you will select a theme of your choice, investigate it, plan a number of shoots to creatively respond to your theme before selecting and presenting 8 photographs. You will also evaluate your work.
Assessment
The course assessment has two components totalling 130 marks:
Component 1: Question paper
This is worth 30 marks. It is worth 23% of the course award
In this exam there are two sections:
Multiple Choice (worth 10 marks)
Analysis of given photographs (worth 20 marks)
Component 2: Project
This is worth 100 marks
This consists of three sections:
Section 1 - Planning, research and investigation (worth 20 marks)
Section 2 - Development and production (worth 70 marks)
Section 3 - Evaluation (worth 10 marks)
Your project will be sent away to the SQA for external assessment
