This blog is all about Athelstaneford Primary School's P6/7 having trips to Gilmerton Gardens, and what we do there. Each week, we've been inspired to explore our Rights, and to do something about the Climate Crisis in our own small way
We are going to Gilmerton Walled Garden every Thursday morning in the Summer term, to help the community garden get developed and to grow some of our own vegetables! We also get to do some of our school work there like maths, reading and writing. Breaktime is great... we have so much space to run around and do cartwheels.
It's important to connect with our 'growing' community so we can learn about looking after our environment, and how to grow our own produce so we don't have to fly food from across the world so much. We hope to learn about which vegetables and fruits we can grow in our own back gardens, and maybe some recipes where we use them.
Over the past weeks, we have been doing different things each week, and having a lot of fun each time we go!
In the Autumn, we'll move our learning indoors, and use the garden to inspire our artwork, learn about healthy soil, sustainability in growing, and how to help our community with their own growing and cooking. By getting our community involved, we hope to work towards our Gold Rights Respecting Schools award!
