This was our first walk back to Gilmerton this Spring. Today we were introduced to the hot bin which is a big black polystyrene bin/compost heap. Compost is used to get our soil healthy. If we want to grow vegetables they need lots of nutrients which they can get from compost. Di also puts on the disgusting compost liquid which they love!
We pruned lots of plants for the microorganisms in the bin so they could eat them, and then we should see the temperature of the hot bin heat up from all the action and the gases they produce. We're going to ask Di to measure the temperature a few times a week and we can make a graph of any changes.
We collected grass in the wheelbarrow even though Will had a shot too!
We enjoyed an extra long game of tig because it was Finn's last day with us before he moved away to America! We'll always remember him by the big stick he has left behind in our classroom! 😭
