Today, year 5, 6 and 7 went to Gilmorton gardens for the second time this year. When we arrived we sat down at the big table and Di started to show up how to make art with charcoal. Most of us hadn't worked with charcoal before. It was made by burning the willow canes which grew in the gardens! We learned to make lots of different patterns and textures with the charcoal. The class all got one piece of paper each and we folded it into eighths and made different patterns on each eighth. When we finished, Mrs Mitchell told us to write fractions on the back of the piece of paper.
We also had a long discussion about the pond which is a new addition to the garden. It is going to help wildlife in the garden, by encouraging bugs and birds to come in to the garden. We've been trying to help butterflies in our own gardens so this is good news.
Anna, Martha, Dylan and Poppy all went with Jerry and started planting tomatoes and chives. Meanwhile everyone else was either raking the ground or reading their books.
