Yesterday we had an unexpected visitor - Will's Mum Karen popped in to tell us all about her amazing Grandmother's life living in Bolivia. She worked for the UN in the very beginning, and it's because of people like her that we all have our Children's Rights nowadays. She also got involved with a community project like we are, and set up an amazng charity project which helped make soup for local people a long time ago.
Karen shared her excitement about the work we've been doing so far and has offered to help us move forward to our next stage of the Gold Award. We are already doing well working with the community with Di's help, and we've learned about our Right to a Healthy Environment, what can grow here, and how to grow more sustainably.
Our Campaign for Gold is called 'Grow Local, Eat Local, Buy Local'. We are trying to encourage people to shop and cook with local ingredients. We thought of making a recipe book which uses mostly local ingredients and can invite people from our local community to invent or share their own recipes. Karen had shared a couple of her own recipes, but also thought she could help US to do something inspiring like her Grandmother did - we can feed our local community in a soup kitchen with her help. Karen is lucky because he knows the people from the Veg Shed so might be able to help us get some vegetables to make the soup with. Karen brought in some beg bags and a really special medal her grandfather got which was the highest honour in Bolivia. We'll do this after Christmas.
